Biography
Vocalist Jeck
Dalawangbayan and guitarist Leigh Andes decided to form their own band
after performing in a rock contest in their company in 2007. Combining
their ideas, they were able to compose songs with heavy metal riffs and
alternative melodies.
In the same year, Arnold Lumbera (Jeck’s
cousin) became the band’s bassist and another officemate as the drummer.
They called their band Socket8 and later on changed it to IllOnIce
(illinnoise).
A year after, their drummer left the company and
eventually left the band. As the band struggled to find a new drummer,
Lei and Jeck tried to settle the gap arising between them. Failing to
resolve their differences, they separated and joined other bands (Jeck
to Finding Memo, Leigh to Arsenic - both bands from the company SPi ).
Months
after, the two patched things up and the group was reunited. The
problem was that they still have no drummer. They decided to try Finding
Memo’s drummer Ariel Lanuza and he automatically fit. Arnold is now on
rhythm guitars, giving his position to Finding Memo’s session bassist
Dido Casisiempre, to create more solid guitar riffs and solos. Finally,
they decided to name the band after the place where they all worked as
Graphics Specialists. It was a company in ParaƱaque called SPi, thus the
name ESPIYA.
In their advocacy to create a difference in the
Pinoy Rock scene, the five of them are motivated and are able to write
more songs and produce music with great vocals, scorching guitar riffs
and lingering guitar solos, head-banging drumbeats, and heart-pounding
bass lines.
It was in 2010 that Espiya started doing the rounds.
With the help of their accounts on Facebook, Reverbnation, Soundclick
and Rakista.com, they were able to find gigs and perform on well-known
bars around the metro. Being lined-up together with recognized bands
like WilaBaliW, Greyhoundz, Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus, Paramita,
Fuseboxx, Even and Gayuma, including foreign band Fahrenheit 43
(Australia), surely ESPIYA has arrived.
Their songs include Lulong, Basag, Buwaya, Landas sa Paraiso, Buy the World and their very famous trademark song Barik.
